The Situation
Home chefs want to sell food online, but writing dish listings, descriptions and uploading photos takes more time than most of them have. Book My Menu needed an app where a chef could register, pick dishes from a ready-made library and schedule them on a calendar with minimal effort.
The Constraint
Setup had to be simple enough for a non-technical home cook to get started in minutes. Multi-date menu scheduling and order management also needed to live in one place, and the design phase had to be delivered in just 10 days.
What we did
We started with planning and research, then moved through wireframing, high-fidelity visual design and a feedback and revision round, delivering the full design in 22 days. The biggest decision was to replace free-form listing creation with a predefined dish library. A chef picks a dish and assigns it to one or more dates.
The menu screen works like a calendar. Chefs plan day by day, control availability with an “open for sale” toggle and can duplicate menus when plans repeat. Onboarding covers kitchen setup and adding first dishes, so a new chef can go live quickly. Authentication is deliberately simple: login, signup and password reset.
Orders are managed in one place, with Pending and Past tabs, pickup or delivery details, the list of ordered dishes, special notes and quick actions such as “Ready for pickup”. The visual identity uses the Outfit typeface and a coral primary colour (#F86979), with a dark slate secondary and a soft grey tertiary.
A predefined library means chefs cannot list fully custom dishes at launch. We chose this deliberately to keep listings consistent, setup fast and the first-run experience free of writing and photography work for new chefs. The cost was creative flexibility: experienced chefs with signature dishes had less room to express them. We judged that speed and simplicity mattered more at this stage, and deferred custom listings to protect stability.
