The Situation

VENDR is a wedding planning platform for couples and vendors in Canada. Couples needed one place to find trusted vendors, organise every event of their wedding, track their budget and talk to vendors. Vendors needed a way to publish a profile, receive enquiries, turn conversations into bookings and keep track of every couple they work with. We built the platform for both sides, plus the admin panel that runs it.

The Constraint

Couples and vendors use the product in completely different ways. A couple plans one wedding with several events and one budget, while a vendor manages many couples and many bookings at once. Each side, and the admin team, had to see and change only what belongs to them. Many VENDR couples celebrate multi-day weddings with events like Mehndi, Haldi and Sangeet, so events couldn’t be a fixed list.

What we did

We built the web app, its Supabase backend and a separate admin panel.

Two onboarding journeys: couples choose their wedding type, events, budget, guest count and the services that matter most. Vendors add their business details, pricing, gallery and services. Every step is checked on the server before the dashboard unlocks.

Events and budgets: couples plan each event, from engagement and Mehndi to the ceremony and reception, plus their own custom events. Each event has its own budget, guest count, date and venue. The app won’t let event budgets add up to more than the wedding’s total budget. Events come from a list the team can update without a code change.

Bookings straight from chat: a vendor can turn a conversation with a couple into one or more bookings without leaving the chat. Each booking records the event, date, venue, price, deposit and payment status, and the system blocks double bookings of the same event for the same couple.

Vendor profiles and discovery: each vendor gets a public page with a gallery, bio, services and pricing. Couples browse by category, city or name. New profiles go to the team for review before they’re published, and the team can suspend any profile.

Staying on track: couples get a wedding roadmap of tasks, an RSVP tracker and saved vendors. Both sides receive in-app notifications for bookings, referrals and updates from the team.

The trade-off

We built on Supabase for the database, sign-in and file storage instead of writing a custom backend. That ties the platform’s access rules to Supabase’s way of doing things, and moving away later would take real work. In return, a small team launched a two-sided marketplace with separate logins for couples, vendors and admins in about four months, with no servers to run or maintain.

What we would do differently

We would write automated end-to-end tests for the booking flow before launch. Turning a chat into a booking is the moment money and dates get agreed, and it is still checked by hand. Tests that walk through the full journey, from message to confirmed booking, would let the team ship changes quickly without risking a vendor’s calendar.
